Personally identifiable information is data that can identify, contact, or distinguish a person. Examples include names, email addresses, phone numbers, home addresses, identity numbers, and financial identifiers.

02What is PII redaction?+

PII redaction is the process of finding personal information and removing or replacing it before the surrounding content is shared. PII Cleaner uses readable labels such as [EMAIL_1] so useful context remains intact.

03Does PII Cleaner upload or store my text?+

No. The free text cleaner and Pro file tools run locally in your browser. The text and files you clean are not uploaded to PII Cleaner, stored as document contents, or used to train a model.

04Which types of sensitive data can it detect?+

The current version detects names in common introduction patterns, email addresses, phone numbers, street addresses, credit card numbers, IBANs, several structured national ID formats, IPv4 and IPv6 addresses, and common API key formats. Pro can add custom regular-expression rules.

05Can I redact PII before sending text to ChatGPT, Claude, or another AI assistant?+

Yes. Paste the prompt, ticket, or note into PII Cleaner first, review the labelled output, then copy that safer copy into the AI assistant. The original identifiers stay on your device.

06Is PII Cleaner free?+

Yes. Browser-based text redaction is free and does not require an account. Pro costs $9 per month and unlocks PDF, DOCX, CSV, image, batch, and custom-rule workflows after checkout. Pro is restored with a license key, not a username and password.

07Can I redact PDFs, documents, or CSV files?+

Yes, on the Pro plan. After checkout, the cleaner on this device can redact PDF, DOCX, CSV, and image files in the browser, including a batch of files. PDF and DOCX output is cleaned text, not a rewritten original file. The free tool still processes pasted text only.

08If I pay monthly, how does the site remember I am Pro?+

Free use needs no account. After Pro checkout you receive a license key. That key is stored on our server with your checkout email and expiry, not your files. Next visit, paste the key (or email plus order ID) in Restore Pro. Creem also emails a customer portal link for billing.

09Does automatic detection guarantee every piece of PII is removed?+

No automatic detector is infallible. PII Cleaner reduces accidental exposure, but you should review the cleaned output before sharing high-risk, regulated, or legally sensitive information.
